Strainers vs. Filters – The Core Difference

  • Strainers remove larger particles (typically >40 microns) from liquids, gases, or steam. They rely on a mesh screen or perforated element, which can be cleaned and reused.

  • Filters remove finer particles (often down to sub-micron sizes) and usually require replacement of the media after use.

T Type Strainer (Basket Type Strainer)

Cartridge Filter

A cartridge filter is a fine filtration device that uses replaceable cylindrical filter elements (cartridges) to remove particles down to a few microns or even sub-micron sizes. Unlike strainers, cartridge filters are not typically reusable—the element is replaced when clogged.
